Femme Fatale Postcards // Bezalel Academy (third year)
100*150 mm
We were asked to create a print production for a term of our choice.
I chose the term “Femme Fatale”, a French phrase that translates to a "fatal woman”.
The “Femme Fatale” is frequently referenced by modern culture through
literature, theatre and cinema.
This term, originating from ancient mythologies, is a male invention.
The “Femme Fatale's” seductive nature and rebelliousness digress from her role
in the patriarchal society, and as a result she gets punished - more often than not by death.
This is meant to be a massage for all females: The “Femme Fatale's” behavior is
inappropriate for a woman.
My project focused on the representation of “Femme Fatale” in "Film Noir":
A cinematic genre and era which famously iconized the “Femme Fatale”.
I made a series of 10 postcards that showcase 10 “Femme Fatale” characters
from Film Noir. On the front: each film's “Femme Fatale” in all her glory, and on the back:
a short description of her death in the film.
